App Guide

The TrueTopo app is a web-based map focused on Alaska land intelligence. It runs in the browser with no installation. You can use it on desktop, tablet, or mobile. A PWA-capable version supports offline use for Pro subscribers.

The narrow rail on the left opens task panels. Relevant to billing:

  • Data — Summary of what’s on the map and catalog links
  • Basemaps — Base map only (topo, satellite, etc.)
  • Presets & layers — Quick presets and the data registry (layer toggles). Locked groups follow your expansion packs & pricing entitlements.

The right sidebar contains panels you can open and close. Each panel serves a specific purpose.

Some panels are gated by expansion kits or Pro. See Expansion packs & pricing and Account & Billing.

Choose a basemap to set the visual foundation of the map:

  • Topographic — Terrain with elevation shading
  • Satellite — Satellite imagery
  • Terrain — Shaded relief for slope context
  • Light / Dark — Minimal styling options

Basemaps are configurable in Settings or via the basemap selector.

Layers are grouped by theme. Free (Base) layers include:

From the Tools panel, import a route file (GPX, KML, or GeoJSON). Supported sources include CalTopo, Garmin, onX, and other mapping tools. Select a route to compute an elevation profile (distance vs. elevation, gain/loss).

Use measurement tools (when available) to measure distances and areas on the map.

Export features to KML, GPX, or generate legal descriptions and filing packets for claims.

When you click a point on the map, the Intelligence panel computes an Opportunity Score:

  • Prospectivity (0–10) — Minerals, geology, nearby deposits, expired claims
  • Access (0–10) — Roads, trails, RS2477, 17(b) easements
  • Legal (0–10) — Land status, claim overlap, Native land

The overall score and recommendation (Stake / Investigate / Monitor / Avoid) help you decide quickly. All computation runs in your browser using live data from BLM, DNR, USGS, and DGGS.

Common shortcuts (configurable in Settings):

  • Search — / or Cmd+K / Ctrl+K
  • Layers — L
  • Settings — , (comma)

Pro subscribers can enable Offline Mode. The app downloads selected layers to IndexedDB and continues to work when there is no network connection. Essential for field use in remote Alaska.
