Contributing datasets
Section titled “Contributing datasets”TrueTopo prioritizes authoritative sources (government, academic, established open data). If you have a dataset that fits the platform (Alaska or wilderness-focused, legal access, hydrology, wildlife, terrain):
- Check the catalog — Ensure it doesn’t duplicate an existing dataset and that the schema can be normalized to our conventions.
- License — Data must be usable for the platform’s purposes (e.g. open data, CC, or a license we can redistribute under). We document license per dataset in the catalog.
- Submit — Open an issue or pull request in the TrueTopo data catalog repository describing the source, schema, update frequency, and license. Pipeline and catalog maintainers will review.
Validation rules
Section titled “Validation rules”- Schema — Required fields and types must match the target layer’s schema (see Data — Formats and layer docs).
- Geometry — Valid OGC geometry; invalid or empty geometries are rejected.
- Ids — Stable, unique identifiers per feature where applicable.
Licensing
Section titled “Licensing”Each dataset in the catalog has a stated license. TrueTopo does not claim rights over upstream data; we aggregate and publish with attribution and license preservation. See legal.truetopo.com for platform terms.
