Expansion packs & pricing
This page matches how the map app decides what is free, what is sold à la carte, and what requires TrueTopo Pro. Authoritative product logic lives in the app catalog; www.truetopo.com shows the same plans for checkout.
Quick reference
Section titled “Quick reference”| Offering | How you get it | What it unlocks (summary) |
|---|---|---|

| Fish Pack | One-time purchase (annual) | ADF&G fish counts, USGS gauges — Fish layer group |
| Hunt Pack | One-time purchase (annual) | GMU and Alaska hunting context layers — Hunting group |
| TrueTopo Pro | Monthly subscription | Access, easements, infrastructure, mineral intel, geology, fish, hunt, Snow Intelligence (beta), aviation, marine, discovery, and Pro field tools — plus all panel kits |
List pricing (shown at checkout and in-app):
- Fish Pack — $19/yr
- Hunt Pack — $19/yr
- TrueTopo Pro — $29.99/mo
Prices can change; Stripe Checkout always shows the current amount before you pay.
Why something is “locked”
Section titled “Why something is “locked””Locks are not arbitrary. They reflect billing and entitlements:
- Layer groups are assigned to a pack (Base, Fish, Hunt, Pro, or legacy pack IDs). If your account does not include that pack, the app disables toggles and shows a lock or Unlock path.
- Checkout runs on Stripe (via the payments Worker). After payment, entitlements are stored server-side and read when you use the app. You must be signed in so the app can apply the same entitlements on every session.
- Some groups roll up to Pro. Access, easements, infrastructure, and mineral intelligence are not sold as separate storefront SKUs today. If a layer needs one of those packs, the upgrade path is TrueTopo Pro (unless you already hold a legacy entitlement from an older product line).
What stays free without signing in: base map, search, Opportunity Score, and Base-layer groups — see Features.
À la carte vs subscription (current storefront)
Section titled “À la carte vs subscription (current storefront)”- Sold individually: Fish Pack and Hunt Pack (annual). Good if you only need fishing or hunting layers.
- Everything else in the premium matrix: TrueTopo Pro — includes the layer groups above plus aviation, marine, discovery, Snow Intelligence (where enabled), and the panel kits below.
Legacy Stripe products may still unlock older pack IDs for existing customers; new purchases follow the table above.
Panel kits (sidebar features)
Section titled “Panel kits (sidebar features)”Some left-sidebar panels are gated by kits (separate from a single layer group). TrueTopo Pro includes all kits.
| Kit | Panels | Purpose (short) |
|---|---|---|
| Miner | Claim Portfolio, Compliance | Claims workflow, filings, compliance |
| Field | Field Log | Field notes and waypoints-style workflows |
| Intelligence | Prospecting / Intelligence | Full intelligence / prospecting tools |
| Ski & Backcountry | Activities | Tracks and backcountry activity workflows |
If you see a lock on a panel, you need the corresponding kit or Pro.
Basemaps vs presets & data layers
Section titled “Basemaps vs presets & data layers”In the app, basemap choice is its own panel; presets and the data registry (layer toggles) live together. Changing the basemap does not remove the need for Pro or packs for locked overlay groups — locks apply to data layers and kits, not to picking a topo vs satellite base map.
