Intelligence Layer

Mapping platforms like CalTopo show map layers and routes for trip planning and terrain analysis. TrueTopo goes further by integrating legal access, environmental data, and regional intelligence into the map so that “where can I go?” and “what’s there?” are answered with the same stack.

  • Route intelligence — ANCSA 17(b) easements and RS 2477 trails as first-class layers so users see legal access, not just lines on a map.
  • Wildlife movement and GMU — Game management units, seasonal data, and fish run timing (e.g. Alaska fish counts) integrated so the map supports hunting and fishing planning.
  • Resource layers — Mining claims, land status, and permits in one place for prospectors and land managers.
  • Legal access paths — One API and one layer set for “where am I allowed to go?” backed by documented sources and limitations.

TrueTopo is not “CalTopo plus.” It is intelligence-first: the data pipelines, the catalog, and the API are built so that the map is the view on top of a trusted, updatable, and licensable geospatial intelligence platform. The docs you’re reading are part of that — the technical backbone that makes the product defensible and scalable.

When you click any point in Alaska, the Intelligence panel computes an Opportunity Score:

ComponentWhat it measures
Prospectivity (0–10)MRDS/ARDF proximity, geology, mineral belts, expired claims, geophysics
Access (0–10)Roads, trails, RS2477, 17(b) easements, slope, water crossings
Legal (0–10)Land status, claim overlap, Native land, withdrawals

Overall formula: Prospectivity (40%) + Legal (35%) + Access (25%)

Recommendation: Stake / Investigate / Monitor / Avoid — plus next steps (e.g., verify at LR2000, check DNR recorder). All computation runs in your browser using live data from BLM, DNR, USGS, and DGGS.
